About Dance 4U

Hello and welcome. My name Is Emily and in 2018 I founded Inclusive Dance Company Dance4U. Here at Dance4U we deliver Dance Lessons both in person and virtually online, my primary aim for this company is to offer therapeutic movement within a safe and non-judgemental space. Our door is open to everyone, all ages and all abilities with both private 1-1 and group lessons, as well as virtual dance parties on offer!

I want individuals to be celebrated for who they are rather than for what they do or how they do it. This Is what makes our lessons so special because we embrace individual uniqueness through creativity.

I started exploring the world of professional Dance as a shy 3 year old began my movement journey attending British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA) examinations and Competitions, gaining certificates into my late teens in;

  • Ballet
  • Tap
  • Modern
  • Jazz
  • Acrobatics

 As I became older I noticed how much pressure surrounded the professional Dance world and I began to loose interest when I found myself preoccupied with ‘getting the movement right!’ rather than allowing myself the freedom to truly express.

I went on to study Dance in Secondary School and achieved A*’s in Dance qualifications at GCSE and A-Level. My passion for Dance was still alive and I was encouraged by Teachers to attend DeMonfort University where I graduated with a BA Hons Degree in Dance.

Upon  leaving University I taught and choreographed performances for both Children and Adults with and without additional needs, a range of different genres of Dance In Schools and within the Community. I soon became fascinated by the concept of Dance being considered as a therapeutic intervention.

This interest led me to complete a Masters in Dance Movement Psychotherapy at The University of Derby. During this time I sought placements in Special Needs Schools, Elderly Care Homes, Cancer Patient Centres and Nurseries. To this day I now consider Dance and Movement to be a language of its own, as it assists in communicating with individuals whom are verbal or pre-verbal.
